In Welcome to the Forum
As an SEO professional, your goal—and your responsibility—is to make sure you can do what's necessary to keep things running smoothly and stay on top of your website content. On September 23, I hosted a sponsored Search Engine Journal webinar presented by Steven van Vessum, VP of Community at ContentKing. He explained how to finally take a proactive stance in your SEO processes when you spot (and fix!) issues before they affect your rankings. Here is a recap of the presentation. How to Spot and Fix SEO Issues Before It's Too Late Search engines never sleep. They constantly crawl your site to update their indexes. SEO errors can happen at any time. You need to fix them before they affect your rankings and results. Around 80% of SEO issues go unnoticed for at least four weeks. An average SEO issue can cost up to $75,000 in Banner Design lost revenue. But with the right tools and processes, you can mitigate these issues. But what about existing tools? Google Search Console and Google Analytics are must-have tools for every SEO professional. But they are not enough if you want to take a proactive stance in your SEO processes. Although Google Search Console sends notifications, they are delayed and limited. And when the alerts you set up in Google Analytics are sent, your organic traffic has already been hit. 4 Common SEO Problems and How to Avoid Them Let's cover the most common SEO issues we encounter and discuss ways to avoid them. 1. Client or colleague turned scammer You don't really see this one coming. Many SEO professionals may have experienced one of the following scenarios from a client or colleague: “The CMS was telling us to update it, so we did – including the theme and all its plugins.” (And they did it directly in the real environment.) “We changed the page titles of these key pages ourselves!” "These pages didn't look important, so we removed them." (Yes, those were the silver pages.) "We didn't like the URLs of these pages, so we changed them." These scenarios are frustrating and can cause your traffic and rankings to drop.
